General George Washington

I think General George Washington was among the finest of the finest. I think the Continental Congress was very smart when they chose him as General. He has the ability to pursue his dreams during the worst of times. His whole army (which wasn’t much of an army) were dying, freezing, and about to give up. George Washington gave them a speech which inspired them and allowed them to sneak up on a major British camp and win the war. Without George Washington right now we would be sitting down drinking tea.

The Hobbit (prelude to Lord of the Rings)

I’m reading a book called The Hobbit. It’s about… well a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, he is very joyful and optimistic. Not really what you would expect a hobbit to be like. Bilbo lives in a hole, more like a tunnel in the hill. On one ordinary day while having some tea at breakfast, Gandalf came by. He said he needed someone for an adventure. A death defying adventure. Bilbo was worried and said no. But Gandalf must’ve misunderstood. Bilbo invited him for tea the next day. That day 14 dwarves came into his home and said they were at his service. Then Gandalf came in behind them and told the story of Smaug a horrible dragon.

Cast Two Shadows

So far this book it is 1780 and its about a girl named Caroline who rescues her negra grandmother from a plantation as her family servant. Caroline has always been curious about her real mother and Miz Melindy (grandmother) knows about it, but Caroline never gets answers from her. Caroline’s friend Kit Gales tries to fight of a squad of red coats but ends in a futile failure. Caroline watches Kit get shot and then hung. That started Caroline’s rage. But she knew that is she tried as well she would end up like ol’ Kit over there hanging from the noose. Caroline tries to get over it when she receives a letter from her brother Johnny who is out at war. She reads that he is hurt and needs to be fetched. Caroline and Miz Melindy go out to fetch him while Colonel Rawdon quarters their house. Miz Melindy get along and get into to trouble while fetching Johnny. Some thoughts I had while reading this book are: The relationship between Caroline’s family and Miz Melindy is very odd because Miz Melindy is their servant but then she their Grandma so it’s almost like having a servant for nothing because you have to care for her because shes your grandmother but then you can order her around kind of. And when Ms. McClure captures them (kind of) Caroline said” How cruel they’ve locked us in hear and only left us breakfast” Maybe you should try the door” And it was open. I thought it was kind of stupid of them to not check the door before they get to dissapointed. And when the redcoats hung Kit i wandered if rage would turn her into a rebel and almost force herself to go out to war because she really seemed angry. When you first hear Miz Melindy talk she reminded me of Timothy from The Cay because she is from the West Indies as well as Timothy. And I realized that they really have something against Tories because Caroline said if there were a room full of Tories she would kill them all. I think in the beginning of the book Ann Rinaldi was trying to tell us look before you leap because Caroline wanted to go to war so bad but when Kit tried to attack them he ended getting shot then hung. That probably changed her otive of going out to war. I really thought this had a lot to do with what we learned in Social Studies because it talked about the slave trade, rebels, patriots, and other political parties of their time. Those are all my thoughts and how far I am in the book right now so I’ll continue on this post later.

The Black Tattoo

The Black Tattoo is about some kids that get asked to participate in a special test. The test is to hold on to a metal staff, while it is bolting with electricity. When Jack looked at Charlie his best friend he can see one of the most important parts of his past. When his dad left them. I’m not too far in this book, but I think one of the kids named Esme, she is trained in martial arts and more fighting techniques. I think she will be very important in the book because she seems to have an interesting character, and style of handling things. I think all the people in the story have different character but they all seem to fit in to each other. Jack, best friends with Charlie, they did everything together since they met in preschool. Charlie, very worried about his family but also careless in a way. The relationship between Jack and Charlie is almost unbreakable and when they get split apart that is where the story will probably start off. Also there is a demon called the Scourge, the oldest and ruthless demon. I think it is released during the test because the leader of the group type thing dies after he says “the-” and some roar unleashes so I think its the Scourge.

Finally Free, But Not Accepted

I just finished a piece of writing about segregation. Finally Free, But Not Accepted

D’aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths

I’m reading another book on Greek mythology, called the D’aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths. It tells you many stories of the Heroic Age, and what I like about it is that it gives you a lot of information before it jumps into the myths. It has a chapter named Zeus and his Family and that’s when it runs through all the gods and tells you special things about them. I’d recommend other Greek myth books than this one because I no about Greek mythology and this book is just really unreliable.

Tales of Greek Heroes

I did a character connection map and this was an explanation for one big connections I had. Tales of Greek Heroes

Maximum Ride -School’s Out Forever

The Maximum Ride series is my favorite series I’ve ever read.  It is about six kids that were mutated and given wings and special powers. The title sounds a lot better if you read the first one. The School is a science lab where the kids were mutated. Now the School is trying to kill them because they don’t want anyone to know about them and the kids do. So the School mutated a ton of adults with wolfs and are called Erasers. They sent the Erasers to kill the six kids.

The kids are on a search for their parents. But they’re also on the run from Erasers.  Fang gets extremely hurt in a fight and has to go to a hospital. There the rest of the flock meets a lady named Anne Walker.  She takes them to her house and cares for them. Anne gives her a sheet of paper that has random numbers on it.  Fang tries to figure it out but ends in a failure. Iggy is very upset.

I really think this is a good book because something exciting is always happening.

Pistol Shrimp

I recently did research on the Pistol Shrimp. This is some brief information on it. Pistol Shrimp

Tales of Greek Heroes

I’m reading a book about greek mythology. It tells the tales of greek gods, titans, and other immortals believed in Greece. Here’s a passage that really stood out to me:

“Yes” answered Perseus quietly. ” I come, according to my promise, bringing the gorgon’s head.”

“Boaster and liar!” jeered Polydectus ” Do think to think to frighten us with empty words? Show us this wonder if you can.”

Perseus answered nothing, but pulled the Gorgon’s head out of the wallet for all to see. And after wards the stone lumps which were once men were dragged out and dumped on the hillside.

This really stood out to me because I thought it was really stupid of Polydectus to say clearly “show me Medusa’s head” because he knows that if you look at it then you will turn to stone from the horrifying appearance of it.
